East London is the second-largest city in the Eastern Cape, sitting on the Buffalo River where it meets the Indian Ocean. It is the country's only river port, hosts the Mercedes-Benz South Africa plant (the largest single MBSA facility outside Germany), and serves as the main coastal gateway to the former Transkei region.
