About Port Alfred

Port Alfred is a small Eastern Cape coastal town between Port Elizabeth and East London, built around the Kowie River mouth. It is a holiday town and a minor university hub (Stenden South Africa, the Dutch hospitality university, has its African campus here). The Royal Port Alfred Golf Club is one of the country's oldest courses. Conferencing here is small-group, beachfront-and-river, and oriented toward longer multi-day retreats.

Stanley Hotel, The Halyards Hotel and Spa, Fish River Sun (a Sun International resort 30 minutes east — golf, beach, casino), Royal Alfred Marina, plus a cluster of small guesthouses and beach lodges. Capacities run 20–250 delegates per venue, with Fish River Sun handling the largest.

Getting there

Port Elizabeth Airport is 1 hour 30 minutes west via the N2; East London Airport is 1 hour 30 minutes east. Port Alfred itself has a small airfield used for charter flights.

Climate and seasonality

Sunshine Coast climate — mild year-round, with the lowest rainfall variability of any SA coastal town. December–April is the peak.
