About Mossel Bay

Mossel Bay sits at the western start of the Garden Route, where the N2 turns inland toward George and the coast becomes the long white-sand stretch that runs to Plettenberg Bay. It was the first European landing point on the SA coast (Bartolomeu Dias, 1488), and the Bartolomeu Dias Museum complex is the main town-centre attraction. The town has a working harbour, a 14 km beach, a relatively dry coastal microclimate, and noticeably lower pricing than the rest of the Garden Route.

Where conferences happen

Pinnacle Point Beach and Golf Resort is the largest premium venue — clifftop accommodation with one of the country's most dramatic golf courses. Mossel Bay Golf Lodge, Diaz Hotel and Resort, Protea Hotel Mossel Bay, and several beachfront and harbour-side hotels handle mid-market conferencing. Garden Route Casino is just east of town with conference and entertainment combined.

When to pick Mossel Bay

Garden Route conferencing for groups that want the coastal experience without Knysna or Plett pricing. Strong for golf-incentive programmes, mid-market corporate conferences, and provincial-government events drawing delegates from across the southern Cape.

Getting there

George Airport is 30 minutes east via the N2. Cape Town is 4 hours via the N2.

Climate and seasonality

Mossel Bay sits in a rain-shadow microclimate — markedly drier than Knysna and George just up the coast. Summers are warm and sunny; winters mild. Whale season June–November.

What to budget

Day-delegate packages R900–R1,600; accommodation R1,800–R4,500 four-star, R5,500+ at Pinnacle Point. Roughly 20% cheaper than equivalent Knysna venues.
