Parys is a small Free State town on the Vaal River, 110 km southwest of Johannesburg. It sits at the centre of the Vredefort Dome — the world's oldest and largest verified meteorite impact crater (300 km diameter, 2 billion years old, a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The town has reinvented itself over the past two decades as a Joburg weekend retreat zone: river resorts, adventure operators, antique shops and a craft beer scene have replaced its older agricultural identity. Conferencing here is small-group, river-and-bush oriented, and explicitly leisure-led.

Where conferences happen

Stonehaven on Vaal, Riverside Sun (technically Vanderbijlpark but operationally Parys-adjacent), Otters' Haunt, The Dock, Riverview, Chez Pierrette, plus a long list of riverfront lodges and farm-stay venues handle local conferencing. Capacities are small (20–150 delegates).

When to pick Parys

Joburg-based corporate retreats wanting an out-of-city character within a 90-minute drive. Strong for team-building (white-water rafting, kloofing, mountain biking, fly-fishing), executive strategy off-sites, and end-of-year functions. The Vredefort Dome adds a science-and-heritage angle for education-sector programmes.
