Hoedspruit sits at the foot of the Drakensberg escarpment in eastern Limpopo, immediately west of the Kruger National Park. It is a small town surrounded by some of the country's densest premium private game reserve clusters — Kapama, Thornybush, Klaserie, Timbavati, Karongwe — with the Greater Kruger's open-system fence-free access making it functionally part of the Kruger ecosystem. Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport (HDS) gives the area direct charter and scheduled access from Johannesburg.

Where conferences happen

Kapama Private Game Reserve, Thornybush Collection, Karongwe Private Game Reserve, Klaserie Sands River Camp, plus a long list of premium private lodges. Capacities are small (20–80 delegates per lodge) but the experience is high-end. Larger groups split across multiple lodges within the same reserve.

When to pick Hoedspruit

Premium executive retreats, board off-sites, family-office programmes, and incentive trips for international groups where Big Five game viewing is the deliverable. Hoedspruit-area lodges are typically less crowded than Sabi Sands equivalents and meaningfully cheaper, with similar wildlife access.

Getting there

Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport (HDS) handles 1–2 daily flights from Johannesburg. Many premium lodges operate their own airstrips for direct charter access. Drive from OR Tambo is 5 hours.
