About Swellendam

Swellendam is the third-oldest town in South Africa, founded in 1745, sitting at the foot of the Langeberg mountains roughly halfway between Cape Town and George. It is a country market town — population around 18,000 — with a long main street of preserved Cape Dutch and Victorian buildings, and the Bontebok National Park and Marloth Nature Reserve immediately adjacent. Smaller executive retreats, board off-sites, family events, and partner programmes where a heritage Cape Dutch town and quiet country setting are the brief. The Bontebok National Park and Marloth Reserve add hiking and birding programme options.

2 hours from Cape Town International via the N2. 2.5 hours from George Airport.

Climate and seasonality

Hotter and drier than the Cape Town coast, milder than the Klein Karoo inland. Spring and autumn are particularly reliable.
